Things to Pack for Belize

  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray or lotion – I recommend 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent which can be purchased at REI
  • First Aid Kit with the following:
    • Headache medicine
    • Cold medicine
    • Upset stomach medicine
    • Motion Sickness Medicine
  • Prescription medication
  • Camera – if using IPhone, you may want to get a water case for your phone.
  • Water Bottle
  • Binoculars (optional)
  • Small Flashlight (optional)
  • Lightweight rain poncho
  • Zip-lock baggies for wet clothes
  • Hat with brim for sun protection
  • Snorkel equipment (optional – you can rent this)
  • Daily Clothes – Belize is casual, as in VERY casual.  Check the weather forecast and dress the way you will feel comfortable for the weather. For hiking, you might prefer pants. Cotton or light synthetic blend clothing that “breathes” is good. There may be rain as Belize is in the tropics, so a poncho or folding umbrella is a good idea. A light jacket for nights would be beneficial.
  • Clothes for a nice dinner at resort (pants, closed toed shoes for men/dress or slacks for women). However, Belize is VERY casual so unless you are staying at a 5 star resort, this might not be necessary. I think it is always good to have at least one pair of long pans (men) and a dress (women) just in case.
  • For hiking, make sure you have good walking shoes. The trails can be muddy and wet so it is a very good idea to have 2 pair. Flip flops or sandals for beach.
  • Good socks for hiking shoes.
  • Swimsuits – Take more than one.
  • Rubber dive booties protect feet from blisters and protect ankles against coral scrapes during dive trips
  • Underwear, Pajamas, etc.
  • Personal Hygiene items.
  • A note about money:  Belize will take US Dollars.  The exchange rate is easy.  1 Belizean dollar is worth $.50 US Dollar.  Think carefully when getting change back.  It can be tricky.
